Smartchamber™ for 1-MCP treatment

The SCS SmartChamber enables the use of 1-MCP on fruit and vegetables without the need of constructing treatment rooms. The five sided, motorized curtain is a practical and cost effective solution for a temporary treatment period.

With a push of a button, the roof moves allowing for various stack heights. Once set, a remote control keychain, similar to door locks for an automobile, is used to control up and down movement of the side walls. Auxiliary switches are also provided to start a fan and turn on a light. Fixed switches and indicator lights are also provided.

The framework is entirely assembled during the fabrication process at the factory. All corners and attach points are labeled and mapped for an easier and faster installation process.

A typical chamber can weigh approximately 1500 to 2500 lbs. Care must be taken to insure that the structure above the chamber has the capability of holding the weight.

Corner 1-MCP treatment room

The Corner 1-MCP style enclosure takes advantage of the already sealed portion of an existing CA room for the treatment of 1-MCP on fruit and vegetables. This temporary chamber provides a sealed space for application without the need for constructing separate expensive treatment rooms that may only be used 20 times a year. The existing constructed walls and ceiling provide three sides for the chamber while the 2 sided curtain partitions the room to a more manageable size for a small treatment space.

The zippered door allows for simple access to the space. Slide the zipper up on each side then roll the middle material up and suspend from the ceiling. The side can also be rolled up to the ceiling when not in use.

Any size curtain can be manufactured to fit your desired lot size.

It has been proven that timely application of the 1-MCP gas is a very important step to the success of the treatment. Some fruits require treatment within three days of harvest.

Splitter 1-MCP treatment room

The Splitter 1-MCP style enclosure takes advantage of an existing CA room for the treatment of 1-MCP on fruit and vegetables. This plastic wall provides twin sealed spaces for application when fruit is not available to fill the entire room. The existing constructed walls and ceiling provide three sides for the chamber while the inner curtain partitions the room to a more manageable size for a small treatment space.

While one side is full and under treatment, the other side can be staged with bins for the next treatment. Once finished, fruit can be shuffled to a long term CA or every room in the facility could have these partitions to help with the demanding and timely treatment of 1-MCP.

It has been proven that timely application of the 1-MCP gas is a very important step to the success of the treatment. Some fruits require treatment within three days of harvest. Treatments are expensive and these spaces will have a short term payback when applications are 100% effective.
