CA Controllers
The GCS 610 system is a PLC based controller for the measurement and control of Controlled Atmosphere fruit or vegetable storage rooms.
It is designed to be used with a range of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide analysers and it is particularly suited to the GCS150 portable analyser or the fixed GCS 650 modular analyser. For laboratory applications the low sample volume ICA41 analyser can be incorporated.
The sampling system comprises a high quality pump, vacuum gauge, filter/separator and an electronic flow rate monitor. The PLC controls the room sampling sequence.
The front panel LCD display clearly indicates the current controller action as well displaying the latest reading for all the rooms. The system can also be observed and controlled from a PC computer with the display software supplied with the system. This software can archive data and produce reports, graphs and export data to Excel.
The control for room ventilation, nitrogen purge and CO2 scrubbing is time proportional which provides an accurate control of gas in each room.
Temperature can be measured from up to 6 probes per room with the high accuracy GCS280 temperature probes. Each room can optionally have temperature control from a selected single or multiple probes.
The modular design makes it possible to produce variations to the base system to meet individual needs.

Oxystat 100/200 Upgrade - GCS 670
Gas Control Systems, Inc. now has the long awaited update for the Oxystat 100 and 200. This GCS 670 offers all the popular features available in the GCS 610 and the GCS 660 that have been available for the past two years.
The 670 uses a PLC that takes the place of the datagem. Pictured right, it mounts on the door of an Oxystat 200 or in a wall box in the case of the Oxystat 100. The PLC operator interface is fully functional and can be programmed directly or through a Windows PC frontend.
Added features the update offers are:
- 640 Temperature Interface updates temperatures immediately, not just each hour with CA readings.
- Flash Memory Card retains data if PC is disconnected for a few days.
- PC logs hourly temps and CA readings. Easily Graphed or Printed
- Temperature Probe allocation and averaging available.
- Temperature Control easily included
- Multiple systems can communicate down one data line. GCS 610, GCS 660, and now GCS 670 can be linked to a single PC.
- Mexican Protocol accepted with added features and formatted printouts for export record keeping.
- Easily Installed.

The 660 is a retrofit controller for existing dbi Oxystat 2 systems.
Some of the features integrated into the 660 are real-time temperature monitoring, temperature control, temperature and CA logging, PC interface, flash memory backup and Mexico protocol approval.
The GCS380 is a complete analyzer and controller for a single fruit store. Carbon dioxide and oxygen sensors are located in the store atmosphere, and send a low voltage signal back to the controller which may be mounted outside the store. This eliminates the need for sample tubing or pumps, and gives continuous real time readings.
Two miniature display/controllers, one each for oxygen and carbon dioxide, make up the CA store controller. It features the following control functions: control output for store ventilation when oxygen is low; control output for nitrogen purge when oxygen is high, or if selected, when carbon dioxide is high; control output for scrubbers when carbon dioxide is high; and an optional control output for adding CO2 when carbon dioxide is low.
The electrochemical oxygen sensor, and infra-red carbon dioxide sensor, along with the interface electronics, are mounted in a housing suitable for fixing through the CA store wall. The sensors are removable from the outside of the store. A connector is provided for the introduction of air of the periodic calibration of the oxygen sensor. The sensors can be up to 50m away from the controller.
There are many options available with the GCS300, including computer interface software. In addition, multiple controllers may be "daisy chained" together and monitored from one location while continuing to provide individual control for each store.
